Inventors of a smart pendulum friction system to prevent and mitigate earthquake-induced damage to buildings.
Every year about 4000 earthquakes happen only in Canada. Are we ready for the next one?
What is a smart pendulum friction system?
It has been designed for use in steel, concrete, and timber buildings, particularly high-rises, to maintain their stability and serviceability when experiencing ground motion having different intensities, frequency content, and magnitudes. It can be easily integrated into building foundations without the need to change structural elements.
Benefits
Build sustainably with a solid structural system from the beginning to mitigate against earth's natural disasters.
Benefits
Enhance structures
Smart FPS enhances the dynamic behavior of structures is it installed in, reducing the permanent deformations and drifts caused by applied seismic loads by providing enhanced energy dissipation capacity, damping, and re-centering of structures.
Benefits
increase Recovery Time
SMAs provide exceptional recovery capability after deformation, and can recover their initial shape after experiencing large deformations of up to 14% of their initial length.
Why is this needed?
Canada has a goal to reach net-zero building emissions by 2050. Umade helps you achieve this with your buildings.
01
A 9.0 magnitude earthquake 75Km off the coast of Vancouver would endure economic losses of close to $75 Billion.
02
In 1994 a 6.7 magnitude earthquake near Northridge, USA had 87 casualties, 8700 injured and $13B - $40B in damages.
03
Construction cost increases, mainly due to construction materials

Who We Are
At Umade, we design, fabricate, test, analyze, and customize structural control systems that are capable of adjusting itself for different loading conditions and dissipating energy of applied loads found within building structures.
